Think with everything you’ve saved

Thoughtloft is a notebook for your Mac. It reads across all your notes, finds the connections you missed and brings old ideas back right when they matter.

Not out yet. I’m building the Mac app now.

You’ve saved years of good ideas. Thoughtloft helps you see how they connect.

Write a note. See what it connects to.

As you write, Thoughtloft looks through everything you’ve saved and shows what your note relates to, with the reason why.

  • Related from your past

Older notes that say something similar show up next to the one you’re writing.

  • Links and backlinks

Link notes with [[double brackets]] and see everything that points back.

  • A map of your ideas

The graph shows your whole library and how each idea ties to the rest.

  • Plain markdown

Every note is a .md file on your Mac. You can take them anywhere.

Your Friday reset plan says almost the same thing as a page in your library: ten minutes, one priority. You may only need one of them.

Connections you missed

Thoughtloft reads across your notes on its own and points out ideas that belong together, even when you wrote them months apart.

On Sep 12 you asked what would make deep work stick on busy weeks. Two notes since then give clues.

One note says tagging can wait. Your note from Sep 30 says untagged captures get lost. Which is true for you now?

Thoughtloft AI answer · Based on 2 sources and 1 memory

Make the review a small reset you can repeat.

Start by emptying your capture inbox, then choose one unfinished decision. Your weekly-review note suggests ten quiet minutes can be enough.

Your thinking stays yours

  • It lives on your Mac

Your library is stored on your Mac. Nothing leaves until you say so.

  • Every AI feature has its own switch

They all start off. Settings show what gets sent before anything leaves.

  • It never rewrites you

Reflections are labeled as Thoughtloft’s words. It never edits a note you wrote.

  • Plain files you can keep

A folder of plain .md files stays on your Mac, so you can leave any time.

  • Coming from Obsidian?

Bring your vault in once. The original is never touched. No vault? Just start writing.

Why I’m building it

I’ve kept notes for years. Ideas, highlights, voice memos. Most of them just sit there. I wanted a place where my notes talk back, where an idea from two years ago shows up the day I need it. So I’m building it.

Questions

When can I try it?
When the Mac app works well enough for daily use. I don’t have a date yet. The waitlist hears first.
How much will it cost?
I haven’t decided. People on the waitlist will know before anyone else.
Do I need AI to use it?
No. Writing, links, search and the graph work without it. Reflections and questions need an AI provider, and you turn that on yourself.
Does it work on iPhone?
Not at first. The Mac app comes first. The iPhone app and sync come after it.
